A Quick Trailer Hitch Replacement for the Land Rover LR3
A rusty trailer hitch can make the rear of an SUV look rough, but on a vehicle like the Land Rover LR3, it can also affect how confidently you use hitch-mounted accessories or tow light loads. In Waffle Square’s video, the old hitch on their 2006 Land Rover LR3 was visibly rusted, worn, and angled downward, likely from previous use or impact.
To replace it, they installed a MaXpeedingRods trailer hitch receiver designed for Land Rover LR3, LR4, and related Range Rover Sport applications. The result was a cleaner rear-end look, a straighter receiver position, and a more usable 2-inch hitch setup.
What Comes in the MaXpeedingRods Hitch Package
Before the installation, the video shows what came with the MaXpeedingRods replacement hitch. The package included the trailer hitch receiver, new mounting hardware, a locking hitch pin, and a rubber receiver cap.
Compared with the old hitch, the new receiver looked much cleaner and more solid right out of the box. The black finish also helped refresh the rear of the LR3 without changing the factory-style look too much.
According to the product listing, this MaXpeedingRods trailer hitch is a Class III receiver hitch made from steel and rubber components. It features a 2-inch receiver tube, with a listed tow weight capacity of 5,000 pounds and a tongue weight capacity of 500 pounds. It also comes as a brand-new replacement part with a 1-year warranty.
Simple Removal and Installation
The installation process was very straightforward in the video. After removing the rear cover plate around the recovery loop and trailer plug area, the team located the large mounting bolts holding the old hitch in place.
The bolts appeared to be either 24 millimeters or 15/16 inch. With a wrench on the back side and an impact wrench on the front, the old hardware came loose without much trouble. Once the old hitch was removed, the MaXpeedingRods replacement hitch was lined up and installed with the new hardware.
One of the strongest points from the video is how quick the job looked. After the new receiver was positioned, tightened, and checked, the host mentioned that the swap took around five minutes. Actual install time will depend on rust, tool access, and the condition of the original hardware, but this LR3 hitch replacement clearly came across as an easy driveway-style upgrade.
Don’t Forget the Torque Check
After the hitch was installed, the team checked the torque before finishing the job. The video notes that the package did not include printed instructions or printed towing information, so they looked up the Land Rover LR3 trailer hitch receiver torque spec and used 110 foot-pounds.
For any trailer hitch installation, this step matters. A hitch receiver is not just a cosmetic rear-end accessory. Whether you are using it for a trailer, cargo carrier, bike rack, or other hitch-mounted setup, the mounting hardware should be tightened to the correct specification before use.
A Practical Upgrade for LR3 and LR4 Owners
For Land Rover LR3 owners dealing with a bent, rusty, or worn trailer hitch, this video shows how simple the replacement can be. The MaXpeedingRods Class III trailer hitch receiver gives the vehicle a clean 2-inch receiver setup, includes useful hardware, and helps restore the rear of the SUV without a complicated installation process.
It is a practical upgrade for older LR3, LR4, and Range Rover Sport models that still see towing, hauling, road trips, or everyday utility use. In Waffle Square’s install, the finished hitch looked straight, clean, and ready for use — a small replacement that made a noticeable difference.
