Justin from Off The Roll has been gradually upgrading his 2006 Honda CR-V for outdoor adventures. His latest addition? A pair of MaXpeedingrods 5-inch LED off-road lights, mounted on the front bumper for a distinctive look and additional lighting options.

Choosing the Lights: Simple, Functional, and Customizable

Justin chose the standard daytime running light (DRL) version rather than the available RGB option, finding it sufficient for his needs.

He also ordered a separate set of amber light covers, which snap onto the lights without additional tools. The amber covers gave the lights a look he particularly liked and complemented the CR-V’s outdoor-focused build.

The lights feature a spot beam with side-shooter lighting, along with metal housings that Justin described as solid and well-made.

Installing the Lights on the CR-V

Justin mounted one light on each side of the front bumper. After removing the bumper, he drilled mounting holes and secured the lights using the supplied hardware, adding washers for extra support at his chosen mounting points.

Once the bumper was reinstalled, both lights sat securely in place, giving the CR-V a balanced, rugged appearance.

One installation detail stood out: the detachable switch connection on the wiring harness.

The included harness features connectors for both lights, a relay, an inline fuse, and a cabin-mounted controller. Instead of forcing a bulky switch through the firewall, Justin could disconnect it, feed the wiring into the cabin, and reconnect it afterward.

It was a practical detail he appreciated, making an otherwise awkward part of the installation easier to manage.

White or Amber? Exploring the Lighting Modes

With the wiring complete, Justin demonstrated the available lighting modes.

The lights feature switchable white and amber DRLs, giving the CR-V two different lighting appearances. He also switched on the main auxiliary lights, which impressed him with their brightness during the demonstration.

The DRLs could also operate alongside the main lights, offering additional visual combinations.

Although the video doesn’t include a nighttime trail test, the demonstration clearly shows the different lighting modes and how they look on the finished CR-V.

Final Impressions: Ready for the Next Adventure

Justin was pleased with the finished installation, particularly the lights’ solid metal construction, convenient wiring design, and overall appearance on his CR-V.

He recommended the lights based on his initial experience and looks forward to putting them to use on future camping trips.

For anyone planning a similar outdoor vehicle project, explore the MaXpeedingrods 5-inch LED pod lights or browse the full auxiliary lighting collection.

Note: Confirm vehicle compatibility and follow applicable local regulations for auxiliary lighting installation and use.
